What are some good tourist attractions in Arizona/New Mexico?

I bought a car in Phoenix and my mom and I are going to fly to get it, then drive it home to Kansas. We will be taking I-40 the whole way. But we didn't just wanna drive.. we wanted to maybe make a little mini-trip out of it. Are there any good tourist attractions around I-40 (we are willing to go a little bit out of our way)? We thought maybe the Grand Canyon and the Petrified Forest. Anything else?
