What is pooling at the back of my throat every morning?

I've been dealing with what my ENT thinks is globus for nearly a year now. It's the most annoying disorder I've ever had the displeasure of knowing, and bothers me almost every day. About the only thing that really helps is sucking on Fisherman's Friend lozenges, which someone online recommended. But every single morning, fifteen minutes after I've gotten up, and before I even get the globus sensation, I feel something at the back of my throat. It feels thick and like mucus, and slides down slowly, likes it's been pooling in some area overnight. My automatic reaction is to try and cough it up and out. What could this be? Is it part of the whole globus thing, or does it sound like something else?
