What do sailors with the rate of "BM" actually do?

I think that sailor with the rate of BM are hull techs or something like that, but I could be totally wrong. I was on the USS Wasp for a few months and there were guys on board whose rate (MOS) was to repair the hull if need be. Anybody know?
