First time buying a cell phone and need some help!?

I want to get a LG VU for texting friends, but whenever I go onto LG's website, I get bombarded by tons of terms that I don't know. I really have no clue what I'm doing, so If you could answer the following question, that would be great! I heard that At&t or someone else has a plan for unlimited texting for 20$, is there a way to get that and only that plan ( With no family plan or anything like that) for the LG VU?
